The Clinic...

Welcome to our tour at Klinik Kalvari.

First we see the patients that are coming to our Clinic starting seven o'clock in the morning, they wait patiently till the Clinic opens around eight. Every day we have about 10-30 "control" patients, next to that we take on around 5-15 new patients. At this moment we have more then 5000 registert patients.

The patients that come for there check-up, give their patient card and we will get their file ready. New patients will fill out a form. They need to write down their personal information and the symptoms they have.

All patients are weighted, their bloodpressure is measured and there will be a short conversation. The person that is interviewing the patients brings their file to a nurse.

The nurses look at the gathered information and examine the patient if nescesary.
For TBC. Sexual transmited diseases (STD's) and Malaria, the nurses refer the patients to our laboratory.
For a Hiv/aids test the patients will go to a counselor, who will explain a littlebit more about Hiv/aids and the procedure of the test. After Counsling the patient will go to the laboratory for testing.

We follow the official procedures for all our testing. The patients will bring in spittle for TBC testing, blood for Hiv/aids, and a smear for STD's.

Ater testing, the patients wait for the results in front of the Clinic, where they are able to watch an informative movie, or read in booklets that are available. After hiv/aids testing, the counselor will explain the results. If a patient is tested positive the counselor will explain  about the medication and how to life with hiv/aids.

The patients get thir medicines in our Farmacy. The medicine for TBC, Hiv/aids are free. The government supplies us with these medicines.
When the patients have given their prescription to our pharmasist, they go to our pastor Leo.
He talks with the patients, shares from Gods word and prays with the patient.

After that the patient will get the prescriped medicines in our farmacy (Apotik). Most of the time a follow up appointment will be made...

Every day we have a break at eleven, we pray together and talk about our day.
Mother Julia cooks for us, she is one of the engines of the Clinic.

Next to the Clinic we are building a temporary building to expand our service to the patients. In April 2014 we started using it.

Thanks for joining our tour! Syaloom from all our collegues!

Neri and Yana...

Did I tell you about Neri and Yana?
Two very special Papuans.
So normal... it seems.

Neri and Yana maried about five years ago. They don't have children of their own.. yet.
But they are always busy caring for about 23 kids, this is where they live, for the moment....

the 31st of January they have to leave this house. Thats what they told us a few days ago, with their eyes filled with tears... I only pasted by for a visit, was'nt prepared.

I don't have a solution and am panicing a littlebit...
Marcel can you pray? 46 childrenseyes + Neri and Yana are looking hopefully towards me.
Maybe they think: Marcel helped Enius building a house......
I am very uncomfartable with the situation and am murmeling something like this:

Ok...Lord I don't get this I have no idea what should happen next.
But you promise if we call out to you, you will answer
I have no idea how I can help or what Neri and Yanaand their kids should do.
Please give a solution Lord, for these wunderfull people.
Amen.

With another week to go, Neri is calling me. I just woke up and am still a little bit grumpy. I answer the phone:

Hello, this is Marcel...
Hi Marcel, this is the Bupati...(Mayor)
Sigh.....hahaha .Hi Neri, wazz upp?
Can you help me today? I got wood and we will start to build the new house. A tempotary house.

It is always fun to visit Neri. He is a fun guy and he always makes people laugh. Most of the time my stomach hurts from laughing when I go home...

To be honest, sometimes I go home with tears in my eyes, I save the tears for my journey home. Every child has its own story and a lot of kids from the street come by for help. And they always receive a blessing from Neri and Yana. In Wamena we have around 800 kids that live on the streets, They keep themselves alive by putting cardboards on motorbikes, washing cars, stealing, sex and so on.

Neri en Yana don't get a lot of help from the Government or the Churches, sometimes a group of friends hepthem. Yana is a teacher at a highschool and from her salary and the money they earn with selling petrol, they take care for 'their' kids. Regurarly they fast so their children have enough to eat.

Ok, back to today. I arrive at Neri and Yana's place. They are enthousiastic, they are building a temporary house. I ask with what?
They look kind of suprised by my question.... With wood of course....The children are already gone to the new place to prepare the ground.

My eyes grow as I look at  the 20 pieces of wood.....
With a lot of questions going around in my brain we start to load the wood into the car...

Nei notices my questions by looking at me and says:
We prayed, so God will answer, don't you believe that?
A big smile on his face.
Honest? I ask.
Of course! He answers.
I don't know.....
Well I believe it...He slaps me on my shoulder en calls the kids.

When I am allready home he sends me a sms. Tools we can borrow, we've got nails, 150 zink for the roof, sand, stones and a carpenter will come to help building. We only need some timber, please pray...

What do you think, will he get the timber? Will they be able to build the temporary house?
And next?
We keep you posted

Soccer...

I would like to tell you a little bit about Papua United. December last year I have been sked to teach soccer at a special village nearby Wamena. The village is called "Jagara" and is situated between the mountains.

It is a beautiful place, most of the time we pick up the kids in front off the mosk and the office off the "kepala desa" (the head of the village).
After picking the kids up we drive to a small Catholic Church about one mile further on the road.
We walk further to cross two small rivers, up and down and then....we arrive at our field.
The field that used to be filled with bushes and stones transformed into a real soccerfield. We even have cornerflags...

What started with this small group became a profesional team. Marnus and Amos assist with teaching the kids. We received balls, shirts, real goals with nets and at this moment we are waiting for special soccer balls from Chevrolet. We hope we will also get costumes and balls for our other teams.

We are not only playing soccer, we talk about life and learn lifeskills. I listen to their stories about school, life and their dreams about the future. The coaches have an important influence in the lifes of the kids.

(still working on translating)

Allebei honderd keer opdrukken.

1...2...3...4....5............................20...

YEEAAAHH!!!

Wow...

Last week we visited a streetkids project supported by Willie Berghuis.
One of the homes for streetkids is runned by Enius Wanimbo whom we met twice now.
Very special to see how local people have a heart for their society.
Always reminds me of Jesus who has the same kind of love for the weak.

Tired...

Sounds reasonable, but it is more than that. Yesterday morining Marcel came down with a bad mood and growled at everything that moved. After a week of hard work we see that this term was really hard on our family.
After study there is not much time for family and other things. The work is done, but...We are glad that we are going away for ten days. After the course we have some extra days off.

We think we will not have Internet from next Monday, After April 9th we are able to mail and skype again. Please pray for us that we will gain some energy and that we have a good course. It would be nice if you could pray especially for the children that this ten days will be a good time for them.

Thank you!
